CANARSIE, NY- Brooklyn.news12.com reports that four people were injured, one severely, in a crash that occurred around 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 6, 2018. The accident happened at the intersection of East 85th Street and Seaview Ave. The 26-year-old driver of one of the vehicles sustained life-threatening injuries after his car flipped over in the collision.
The 23-year-old passenger in the same vehicle reportedly sustained only minor injuries. The man and woman riding in the other vehicle were both injured as well. According to officials, both had neck and back injuries. All four individuals were transported to Brookdale Hospital for treatment.
The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. Car accidents happen with such frequency that driving is arguably the most dangerous activity that most people engage in regularly. Within the course of a typical driver’s lifetime, he or she will likely be involved in three or four crashes. Even cautious drivers can become involved in crashes that are the result of another driver’s carelessness, or of bad weather conditions. Most accidents are the result of human error. The largest percentage of fatal car accidents are the result of drunk driving.
This is followed by speeding. The third most likely cause is distracted driving, which includes such dangerous behaviors as texting while driving. This means that the top three reasons for traffic-related fatalities are all things that are entirely avoidable. Accidents that involve rollovers are particularly deadly. While only a small proportion of overall car accidents result in a rollover, close to one-third of deadly car accidents involve a vehicle flipping. It is important to stay alert behind the wheel and to always wear a seatbelt. Taking these actions can reduce your risk of being involved in a tragic accident.
