Tesla is recalling about 3,500 Model Y vehicles from 2022-2023 due to improperly tightened second-row seat back bolts, affecting around 4% of these models. This defect can impair seat belt function during crashes, increasing injury risk. Tesla discovered the issue after five warranty claims and a Fremont incident, prompting an investigation and recall. Affected owners will be notified by mail to have their vehicles inspected and repaired for free. The recall highlights the importance of addressing manufacturing defects to prevent accidents and injuries.

According to an online news report published on CNN.com, Tesla has announced that it is recalling approximately 3,500 2022-2023 Tesla Model Y motor vehicles because second-row seat back bolts were not properly tightened. Tesla is reporting that about 4% of its 2022-2023 Tesla Model Y cars are affected by this manufacturing defect. The recall announcement states that the loose bolts can cause the seat belts to not operate properly during a crash leading to an increased risk of injury for passengers who are seated in the second-row seat, according to the National Highway Traffic Administration.

The recall also states that the affected 2022-2023 Tesla Model Y cars during production had one or more of the seat back frame bolts “may not have been torqued to specifications.” Moreover, affected owners can determine if their vehicles are affected by checking to see if the second-row seat back frame folds improperly or if the second-row seat is loose or rattles while the vehicle is in use. Tesla became aware of the issue after receiving five warranty claims about the bolts.

In one incident, a Fremont driver discovered a faulty seat back bolt. That incident triggered an investigation by Tesla. Tesla issued a recall determination that day. According to the recall announcement, Tesla will send recall notices that ask the affected owners to have their vehicles inspected and have the bolts tightened at no charge. All affected Tesla owners will be notified by U.S. mail.

Defective auto manufacturing can lead to serious accidents, which may result in injury, death, and property damage. These types of accidents can occur in various ways, such as faulty brakes, defective tires, malfunctioning airbags, or engine failure, among others.

In many cases, the automaker may be held liable for such accidents if it is found that the defect was due to poor design or manufacturing practices. This may result in a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer, seeking compensation for the damages incurred.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is responsible for monitoring and investigating potential safety defects in vehicles and may issue recalls if necessary. However, not all defects are immediately detected or addressed, which can lead to accidents and injuries.

It is important for consumers to stay informed about any recalls or safety issues related to their vehicles and to promptly address any concerns or issues with their dealership or the manufacturer. Additionally, regular maintenance and inspections can help identify any potential defects or issues before they become serious problems.

Defective auto manufacturing is a serious issue that can have devastating consequences. Manufacturers have a responsibility to ensure the safety of their products, and consumers should remain vigilant in protecting themselves and their families while on the road.
