Allied Air Enterprises, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a recall for Armstrong Air and Air Ease single-stage gas furnaces. The recall, announced on June 8, 2023, affects approximately 9,255 units of these furnaces sold in the United States.

The reason for the recall is a component inside the furnace that was improperly assembled, resulting in the production of high levels of carbon monoxide (CO) under certain operating conditions. This poses a significant risk of carbon monoxide poisoning to consumers.

The recall includes 96% efficiency gas furnaces under the Armstrong Air and Air Ease brand names with the following model numbers: A96UH1E045B12S, A96UH1E070B12S, and/or A96UH1E110C20S. These furnaces weigh between 129 and 170 pounds and were sold between September 2022 and March 2023. The brand name is printed on the exterior of the furnace, and the model number can be found on the label by opening the furnace door.

To address the issue and mitigate the potential hazards, consumers are advised to contact Allied Air Enterprises to schedule a free in-home repair by an authorized technician. The technician will replace the incorrect component to ensure the safe operation of the furnace. Allied Air Enterprises is directly contacting all known distributors, who will then work with dealers to reach out to consumers who purchased the recalled units. In the meantime, consumers who continue to use the affected furnaces should have working carbon monoxide alarms installed on every level of their homes and outside sleeping areas.

Fortunately, no incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled furnaces thus far. However, it is crucial for consumers to take immediate action to ensure their safety and prevent potential carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Armstrong Air and Air Ease gas furnaces were sold through authorized HVAC dealers nationwide from September 2022 through March 2023, priced between $1,800 and $3,400.

Allied Air Enterprises LLC, based in West Columbia, South Carolina, is the manufacturer of these recalled furnaces. The units were manufactured in the United States.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of regular maintenance and proper functioning of gas furnaces, which play a crucial role in keeping homes warm during colder months. Consumers should prioritize their safety by promptly contacting Allied Air Enterprises for the necessary repairs and ensuring the installation of carbon monoxide alarms in their homes.

For more information regarding the recall, consumers can contact Allied Air Enterprises at their corporate phone number listed on its website. They can also visit the recall websites at www.alliedair.com/product-recall or www.alliedair.com and click on the “PRODUCT RECALL” link for additional details.
