CPSC Urges Immediate Action to Prevent Serious Injury or Death from Loose Magnets
WASHINGTON, July 6, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is issuing a crucial warning to consumers regarding the Carolina Milano 5mm Magnetic Balls Cubes. These loose magnets pose a severe risk of injury or fatality if ingested and should be stopped from use immediately.

Thorough testing conducted by the CPSC has revealed that the Magnetic Balls Cubes from Carolina Milano do not comply with the mandatory federal safety standard for magnets. When these high-powered magnets are swallowed, they have the potential to attract other magnets or metal objects, leading to serious complications such as intestinal perforations, twisting, blockages, infections, blood poisoning, and even death.
Regrettably, the seller, CarolinaMilano.com, based in Israel, has failed to cooperate with the CPSC regarding the recall of this product and is not providing any remedy to affected consumers.
The Carolina Milano 5mm Magnetic Balls are small, spherical rare-earth magnets that are loose and separable, offering a strong magnetic flux. Sold as a set of 216 multi-colored magnetic balls, they come in the shape of a cube. These 5mm sets were packaged in clear plastic cases and tin boxes, accompanied by a black velvet storage/travel bag, a separator/cutting card displaying the warning “KEEP AWAY FROM ALL CHILDREN,” and an instruction guide featuring the Carolina Milano name and logo. The Magnetic Balls Cubes were exclusively sold online at www.carolinamilano.com for approximately $27.

While the exact dates of sale for the Magnetic Balls are unknown due to the lack of cooperation from the company, the Carolina Milano brand has been selling products since 2014. It is believed that these Magnetic Balls have been manufactured since October 2022. The CPSC strongly advises consumers to discontinue the use of Magnetic Balls Cubes immediately and properly dispose of them to ensure safety.
