Potential Risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Associated with Weighted Swaddle Blankets
Medical professionals are raising red flags about the baby sleep sack, a weighted blanket created specifically for infants. In a significant public awareness alert, pediatricians caution that the blanket, designed to simulate the comfort of a “hug”, could become a fatal risk.

The firm was compelled to recall all 4.7 million of its sleepers after 32 deaths were attributed to the product. The commission stated earlier this year that the sleeper’s lack of restraints led to infant deaths when the babies rolled onto their stomachs or sides.
The AAP, in its letter, deemed it unacceptable to wait for these tragedies to occur. They asserted that fatalities resulting from sleep products could have been prevented if potentially unsafe products were withdrawn from the market pending safety verification.
The AAP concluded by stating, “Allowing these products to remain on the market while waiting for confirming data is an untenable situation. Each data point represents a family forever scarred by the unimaginable tragedy of losing an infant to a sleep-related death.”
