According to a U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) news release published on March 16, 2023, consumers who bought a carbon monoxide detector on Amazon under the brand names GLBSUNION or CUZMAK should discontinue its use. The CPSC’s warning announcement states that these detectors are not effective at notifying users of the presence of lethal, odorless, and colorless carbon monoxide (CO).
The CPSC states that about 200 people in the United States die annually from accidental CO poisoning related to consumer products.
If a high concentration of this deadly gas is present in a home and the detector is nonfunctional, the CPSC warns that injury or death is probable.
The commission’s sensitivity tests on the GLBSUNION and CUZMAK detectors revealed their failure to alert when exposed to predetermined CO concentrations of 400 ppm. This noncompliance with UL 2034, a voluntary safety standard, was noted in the commission’s statement.
These CO detectors are made of white plastic and measure approximately 4″ by 1.5″ by 4″.
The devices claim to identify hazardous carbon monoxide levels and warn users with a flashing red LED and a loud alarm pattern.
The items were sold on Amazon for prices ranging from $16 to $40.
Model No. AJ-938 was available under Amazon ASINs B093Y1KK5Q and B093Y637CM. Model No. CD01 was listed under Amazon ASINs B07MPVK6HG and B07K44HLCV.
The CPSC advises against purchasing or selling these detectors. Dispose of them promptly and install new, functional CO detectors.

The CPSC recommends that every home has a CO detector on each floor and one detector outside each sleeping area. CO detectors should be battery-operated or have battery backup. Moreover, it is vital that you regularly test your home’s CO detectors and replace batteries as necessary. Purchase only CO detectors that meet the UL 2034 safety standard, as advised by the commission.
