Jeep Grand Cherokees Rear Coil Spring Accident Lawsuit Lawyers

Chrysler is recalling around 330,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees due to improperly installed rear coil springs, which could detach and increase collision risks. The recall affects 2022-2023 Grand Cherokees and 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee L models. Chrysler urges owners to visit dealerships for free inspections and repairs. No injuries have been reported, but Chrysler received 17 warranty claims and two customer assistance records. Affected owners will receive recall details by July 28, and refunds are available for prior repairs with receipts. For inquiries, contact Chrysler or the NHTSA.

Grand Cherokees Rear Coil Spring Accidents

Chrysler is initiating a recall of approximately 330,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees due to a potential risk of rear coil springs detaching during driving, thereby escalating the likelihood of a collision.

The recall pertains to Grand Cherokees from 2022 and 2023, along with 2021-2023 Grand Cherokee L vehicles, Chrysler confirmed in recall documents submitted to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA). The problem is not with the rear coil springs themselves, but with their improper installation on Grand Cherokees manufactured between December 2020 and May 2023, Chrysler clarified.

Approximately 114,300 Grand Cherokees and 217,100 Grand Cherokee L vehicles are affected by this recall, according to Chrysler. The automaker is urging owners to bring their Grand Cherokees to an authorized dealership where mechanics will inspect and repair the springs at no cost.

Chrysler, the parent company of Jeep, stated in the NHTSA documents that the detachment of rear coil springs while the vehicle is in motion could pose a threat to both the drivers and passengers of other vehicles. This might result in unexpected crashes and/or potential harm to pedestrians or other vulnerable road users.

Rear coil springs, a key component of a vehicle’s suspension system, serve to cushion the impact from road irregularities and also distribute the vehicle’s body weight onto the axles. Automotive experts warn of the risks associated with operating a vehicle with damaged or absent rear coil springs.

As of May 25, Chrysler reported no injuries linked to the issue with the rear coil springs.

Chrysler launched an investigation into the issue on March 3 following a report from a 2023 Grand Cherokee owner who experienced the coil spring detaching while driving. Post-investigation, Chrysler revealed it had received 17 warranty claims and two customer assistance records related to this issue.

Chrysler plans to send more information regarding the recall and potential repair solutions to Grand Cherokee owners via mail by July 28. The company also promised to refund any customers who have paid for spring repairs out of their own pockets, provided they can present a receipt of service.

For any inquiries related to the recall, Chrysler can be contacted at 1-800-853-1403, referencing recall number 64A. Alternatively, customers may reach out to the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.

This recall follows a similar action taken by Jeep just a month ago when about 89,000 Grand Cherokees were recalled due to incorrectly installed steering columns. This previous recall targeted 2021-2023 models. There were no reported injuries related to the steering column recall, Chrysler confirmed.

Initiating a Claim Following an Injury from an Accident Due to this Automobile Defect

I ‘s possible to sue a vehicle manufacturer like Jeep if you’re involved in an accident caused by a vehicle defect that resulted in injuries. However, it’s important to remember that legal matters can be complex, and every situation is unique.

In a situation like this, you would likely be pursuing a type of lawsuit known as a “product liability claim.” Product liability refers to a manufacturer or seller being held liable for placing a defective product into the hands of a consumer.

If a defect in a Jeep vehicle, such as the one mentioned in the recall, was the direct cause of your accident and injuries, then you could potentially have a strong product liability claim. The basis for your claim could be that Jeep was negligent in designing, manufacturing, or providing adequate warnings about the vehicle.

However, it’s important to consult with an attorney from Parker Waichman LLP who can understand the specifics of your situation and your legal options. Lawsuits can be complicated, and they often require expert knowledge and resources to build a successful case.
