A recent recall of approximately 3,800 Klein Tools and Blackfire power stations highlights potential fire and burn hazards
Klein Tools has announced a recall of their portable rechargeable power stations, including the Klein Tools KTB1000 and the Blackfire PAC1000 models, due to a significant safety concern. This recall, effective from December 21, 2023, involves about 3,800 units, with an additional 164 units sold in Canada. The recall is initiated because of an overheating issue within the power stations’ internal inverter boards, posing potential fire and burn hazards to users.
The affected products are the Klein Tools and Blackfire portable rechargeable power stations equipped with lithium-ion batteries. These stations, capable of delivering up to 1500W of AC power and containing a 983Wh lithium-ion battery pack, come with four 120V outlets, six USB ports, and a 12V car port. The models, identifiable by their labels at the rear of the station, are primarily orange and black and feature the model names PAC1000 (Blackfire) and KTB1000 (Klein Tools), with “Klein Tools” inscribed in white on the front.
In response to this safety issue, consumers are urged to immediately cease using the recalled power stations and return them to their original place of purchase. Klein Tools is actively reaching out to all known purchasers to provide further guidance on the recall process.
To date, there have been four reports of the power stations overheating. Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries or lithium-ion battery fires associated with this issue. These power stations were available through industrial distributors and electrical wholesalers nationwide from November 2021 to November 2023, retailing for about $1,300. The units were imported by Klein Tools, based in Lincolnshire, Illinois, and manufactured in China.
Legal Options for Injured Consumers

A product liability lawsuit involves proving that the product was inherently defective and that this defect caused the injury. This legal process includes several steps, such as gathering evidence, filing the lawsuit, the discovery phase, and possibly a trial.
Having an attorney is essential in navigating these legal proceedings. An experienced lawyer can provide valuable guidance through each step of the lawsuit, ensuring that the consumer’s rights are protected and that the case is effectively presented.
