Around 260,000 units of these board books are under recall in the United States, with an additional 12,900 units in Canada, highlighting the extensive reach and availability of these books. The books were retailed individually and were also available as a four-book box set named “Rainbow Road Book Box,” diversifying the purchasing options for consumers.
The underlying hazard stems from the plastic binding rings that can easily detach from the books. This presents a choking hazard, especially to young children, who are the primary audience for these board books. While no injuries have been reported as of the recall date, September 21, 2023, there have been instances reported regarding the detachment of the plastic rings in the United States and Australia, reinforcing the need for urgent rectification.

The individual books were available for a price range of $10 to $11, and the box set was priced at about $21. These books were actively sold from March 2022 through August 2023.
