Recall Alert: Seven Titles from the Rainbow Road Series Board Books Recalled Due to Choking Hazards

Make Believe Ideas has recently initiated a recall for their Rainbow Road Series Board Books, constituting seven diverse titles aimed at children. This series has garnered attention due to the detachable plastic binding rings associated with the books, presenting a potential choking hazard to young children, prompting immediate action to ensure the safety of the little readers.
The Rainbow Road Series Board Books have been recognized for their distinct and engaging themes, featuring titles such as “Animal Counting,” “Dinosaur’s First Words,” “Old MacDonald Had a Farm,” “There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly,” “Things that Go!,” “Unicorn’s Colors,” and “Where’s My Bottom?”. Each book in the series is characterized by its vivid and captivating illustrations, bound together with plastic rings.
Around 260,000 units of these board books are under recall in the United States, with an additional 12,900 units in Canada, highlighting the extensive reach and availability of these books. The books were retailed individually and were also available as a four-book box set named “Rainbow Road Book Box,” diversifying the purchasing options for consumers.
The underlying hazard stems from the plastic binding rings that can easily detach from the books. This presents a choking hazard, especially to young children, who are the primary audience for these board books. While no injuries have been reported as of the recall date, September 21, 2023, there have been instances reported regarding the detachment of the plastic rings in the United States and Australia, reinforcing the need for urgent rectification.
To alleviate the potential dangers and ensure consumer safety, consumers must cease using the recalled books immediately. Make Believe Ideas is offering refunds in the form of gift cards to those affected by the recall. Consumers are encouraged to register online at www.recallrtr.com/rr to facilitate this process. Upon successful registration, individuals will receive instructions outlining the method to dispose of the book(s) properly and will be required to confirm that they have adhered to the disposal instructions.
The books have been widely available sold at various prominent retailers like Target, Barnes & Noble, and Sam’s Club, and also at school book fairs nationwide. Online platforms, including www.amazon.com and other websites, have also featured these books. The individual books were available for a price range of $10 to $11, and the box set was priced at about $21. These books were actively sold from March 2022 through August 2023.
