Nationwide Recall for VRURC Portable Chargers Due to Fire Hazard
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces a widespread recall of VRURC portable chargers over severe fire risk concerns.
In a safety alert issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, VRURC portable chargers have been recalled due to a potential fire hazard. The recall was prompted by the chargers’ propensity to catch fire, putting users and their property at risk.
These chargers, retailing between $30 and $40, were available for purchase exclusively through Amazon’s platform, sold by VRURC from July 2021 to May 2023. These devices have been identified as a potential fire hazard due to their ability to spontaneously ignite. An estimated 190,000 units were circulated during this period. The recall specifically targets VRURC portable chargers carrying the model number “OD-B7,” characterized by integrated cables and a wall plug. This model number can be located on the reverse side of the charger, with options in black, blue, green, orange, pink, red, and white.
There has been a documented incident involving one of these VRURC chargers causing a fire onboard a commercial aircraft, leading to four flight attendants requiring hospital treatment for smoke inhalation. All consumers are strongly urged to discontinue use of the recalled chargers immediately and reach out to VRURC to avail a free replacement.
The company behind VRURC is the Chinese firm Shenzhen ChuangliJiacheng Technology Co. Ltd., and the recall is listed under the identifier 23-238.
