567,000 Chargers Sold at Costco Recalled for Fire Risk

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a significant recall affecting 567,000 portable chargers sold exclusively at Costco. The recall was prompted by serious safety concerns after two house fires were attributed to the units overheating. The chargers in question are the “myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh” models with the model numbers “AO10FK-A,” “AO10FK-B,” and “AO10FK-C.”

These portable chargers are black and feature two attached cables for charging electronic devices and retractable wall prongs for recharging the power bank. The model number is printed on the back of the unit, and the date codes of the recalled products end in 21 or 22, or are one of the following four date codes ending in 23: 0123, 0923, 1523, or 1723. The recall was issued because of the potential for the units to overheat and cause burns or fires, posing a significant hazard to users.

The Risks and Impact of Overheating Chargers

The recall was announced on June 20, 2024, following 120 reports to the CPSC about the chargers overheating. Additionally, myCharge received five reports of incidents, including two house fires that resulted in $165,000 in property damage. Given the widespread use of these chargers and the severity of the incidents reported, the recall underscores the critical need for consumers to immediately stop using the affected products.
