Grand Rapids Chair Company Recalls Wood Dining Chairs Due to Fall Hazard

Thousands of Chairs Recalled for Risk of Shifting, Breaking, or Collapsing

Grand Rapids Chair Company has issued a recall for approximately 5,670 wood dining chairs, citing a significant fall hazard. The chairs, which include various styles under the Brooke model, were found to potentially shift, break, or collapse, posing a serious risk to consumers. This recall, announced on July 25, 2024, calls for immediate action from customers who have purchased these products to ensure their safety.

The recall covers several specific models of the Brooke wood dining chairs, including those with partially and fully upholstered seats and backs. The affected model numbers are W520, W520-11, W520-21, W520-31, and W520-33. Customers can locate the model number on the original order confirmation or invoice. If this information is unavailable, the Special Order Number (SO) found on a white sticker on the underside of each chair can be referenced. A complete list of affected special order numbers is available on the company’s website.

The recalled chairs were sold through special orders from January 2020 to June 2024, with prices ranging from $450 to $1,015. Although there have been three reports of the chairs breaking, fortunately, no injuries have been reported to date. To address the issue, Grand Rapids Chair Company is offering a free repair service, which will be performed by their personnel at the consumer’s location. Customers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled chairs and contact the company for the repair.

Impact of Defective Products on Consumers

Defective products such as these recalled wood dining chairs can lead to serious injuries. When a chair collapses or breaks unexpectedly, users can suffer from various types of injuries, including bruises, fractures, and sprains. In more severe cases, falls resulting from a defective chair can lead to concussions, spinal injuries, or even long-term disability. The risk is particularly high for vulnerable populations such as the elderly or those with existing health conditions.

Victims of such defective products may experience significant physical pain, emotional distress, and financial burdens due to medical expenses and lost wages. These impacts underscore the importance of holding manufacturers accountable for the safety of their products.

Legal Recourse for Victims

Consumers harmed by defective products like the recalled Grand Rapids dining chairs have the right to seek compensation through product liability lawsuits. These lawsuits can help victims recover damages for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and other related costs. The process typically begins with an initial consultation with a product liability attorney, who will evaluate the case and determine its viability.

If the case proceeds, the attorney will gather evidence, such as purchase records, medical reports, and expert testimonies, to build a strong case. The attorney will then file a complaint against the manufacturer, which may lead to settlement negotiations. If a fair settlement cannot be reached, the case may go to trial, where the attorney will advocate for the victim’s rights and seek maximum compensation.

Importance of Legal Representation

Navigating the complexities of a product liability lawsuit can be daunting without professional legal assistance. An experienced attorney can provide essential support at every step, ensuring that the victim’s rights are protected and that they receive the compensation they deserve. From filing the lawsuit and collecting evidence to negotiating settlements and representing clients in court, an attorney’s expertise is invaluable.
