These candies, marketed by various brands under different names, typically feature a roller ball applicator designed to dispense liquid candy. However, the CPSC’s latest release highlights a critical safety concern: the potential detachment of the roller ball, posing a significant choking hazard, particularly to young children.
Consumers are strongly advised to refrain from purchasing or selling any candy falling under this category, emphasizing the immediate cessation of usage and disposal of such products. The CPSC’s warning accompanies recent recall announcements, notably including the recall of approximately 290,000 units of Happiness USA Liquid Rolling Candy, distributed nationwide by Twenty Four Six Foods. This recall was prompted by a choking incident involving a 7-year-old child who required emergency surgery to remove the dislodged roller ball from his throat.
Further recall notifications referenced in the CPSC’s release pertain to Slime Licker Sour Rolling Licking Candy and Cocco Candy Rolling Candy, both subject to recalls in 2023. Tragically, the latter product was associated with the death of a 7-year-old girl in New York, who choked on the roller ball in April 2023, underscoring the grave risks posed by these hazardous candies.
Individuals who have purchased or come into possession of these candies are urged to promptly cease their use and remove them from access by children. The CPSC encourages anyone who has experienced an incident related to the use of these or similar products to report it through the agency’s website, SaferProducts.gov.
