
QUEENS, NY – A news report posted on floridanewstimes.com states that there was a fatal accident on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens. According to NYPD officers at the accident scene, a 77-year-old woman from Queens was killed in the motor vehicle accident. NYPD officers and emergency first responders arrived at the fatal accident at approximately 3:20 in the morning. The accident occurred in the southbound traffic lane of the Van Wyck Expressway by 116th Avenue in Queens, New York.
NYPD officers reported that the 77-year-old woman was discovered dead at the accident scene. The preliminary investigation reported that a BMW X6 was heading southbound along Van Wyck when it rear-ended a Nissan Altima. The Nissan Altima was also heading southbound when the two vehicles collided.
BMW X6 then struck the rear-end of a Toyota Camry that was traveling in the direction of the other two vehicles. According to NYPD officers, the BMW lost control again and then crossed through a guardrail and fell onto a side road by the Van Wyck Highway. Police reported that the BMW’s female driver fled the accident scene on foot.
The Nissan Altima driver, a 38-year-old man, was injured and transported to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in a stable medical condition. His passenger, the 77-year-old woman who lost her life in the accident, was riding in the passenger seat of his Nissan Altima. Her identity was not released.
The Toyota Camry’s driver, a 40-year-old man, was also injured and brought to the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The accident is currently under investigation. Criminal charges may be brought in the fatal hit-and-run accident.
