Luxor Workspaces Announces Recall of A/V Carts Due to Tip over Deaths

Recent recall announcements during the past week include an audiovisual cart prone to tipping when loaded with heavy items, which has led to the fatality of three children between 2006 and 2016.
Luxor Workspaces is recalling its A/V carts as they can become unsteady when carrying heavy items like cathode-ray tube televisions, presenting a risk of tipping over.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission disclosed that three children have died and one sustained severe injuries in cases where the recalled A/V carts carrying CRT televisions tipped over and fell on them.
The commission stated that the carts are used by schools, daycare centers, religious institutions, and other places where children might be present to transport A/V equipment, and users may not be aware of the potential dangers associated with the carts. Consumers are advised against carrying anything weighing more than 25 pounds in the cart.
To see the full list of recalled cart models, visit the commission’s website at www.cpsc.gov. The carts have been available for purchase since the early 1980s through various websites, including Amazon.
Users should discontinue the use of the carts and reach out to Luxor at 800-323-4656 to obtain a free repair. The company will supply metal ballast kits, which should be affixed to the bottom shelf of the cart to enhance stability and weight, as well as new warning labels cautioning against placing anything over 25 pounds on each shelf.
