Murf Electric Bikes Issues Recall for Fall and Injury Hazards
Murf Electric Bikes LLC is recalling about 9,000 electric bicycles due to a fall and injury hazard. The recalled bicycles do not meet the U.S. safety standard for electric bicycles, which could cause the bicycles to malfunction and fall, potentially injuring the rider.
The recalled bicycles were sold under various model names, including The Fat Murf, Alpha Cargo, Alpha Murf, Fat Murf Step Thru, Fat Pax Step Thru, Izzy Step Thru, Mini Murf, Pax Step Thru, and Izzy Beach Cruiser. They were sold in black, white, beige, blue, cream, gray, and green colors. The bicycles have an electric assist motor and are equipped with a bell, a headlight, and a tail light. “Murf” is printed on the sides of the down tube of the bicycle frame.
The recalled bicycles were sold at Murf’s store in San Clemente, California, online at www.murfelectricbikes.com, and at bicycle stores nationwide from July 2017 through April 2022 for between $1,700 and $3,000.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact Murf’s store for a free repair. Consumers can also perform the repair themselves using a video available online. Murf Electric Bikes is contacting all purchasers directly.
The company has received at least one report of a fall and one minor injury related to the recalled bicycles.
Consumers with questions or concerns can contact Murf online at www.murfrecall.com or https://murfelectricbikes.com and click on “Recall” for more information.
Filing a Product Injury Claim
Victims who have suffered injuries due to the recalled Murf electric bicycles may be able to file a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer, Murf Electric Bikes LLC. In a product liability lawsuit, the plaintiff (the injured person) alleges that the defendant (the manufacturer) designed, manufactured, or sold a defective product that caused the plaintiff’s injuries.
The lawsuit process can be complex and time-consuming, and it is important for victims to have an attorney represent them throughout the process. An attorney can help victims to understand their legal rights and options, gather evidence, file the lawsuit, and negotiate with the defendant’s insurance company.
In a product liability lawsuit, victims may be able to recover damages for their injuries, including medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, lost earnings, and emotional distress. In some cases, victims may also be able to recover punitive damages, which are designed to punish the defendant for its wrongdoing.
If you have been injured by a recalled Murf electric bicycle, it is important to speak with an attorney as soon as possible. An attorney can help you to determine whether you have a valid claim and can guide you through the lawsuit process.
