On October 9, 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled about 6,400 Secura air fryers due to overheating risks linked to a faulty wire connection. Models SAF-53 and SAF-53D, sold between May 2019 and October 2020, are affected. Consumers should check for date codes 1901, 1903, or 1904. On October 9, 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall of approximately 6,400 Secura air fryers, with 680 of these units having been sold in Canada. The recall stems from concerns over potential fire and burn hazards. The key issue identified with the Secura air fryers pertains to a problematic wire connection, which might cause the appliance to overheat excessively.

The models under scrutiny, Secura SAF-53 and SAF-53D, retailed for around $90. These products were available for purchase on the official Secura website and Amazon between May 2019 and October 2020. To identify whether an air fryer is part of the recall, consumers should look for a date code of 1901, 1903, or 1904 located on the appliance’s base. Additionally, the Secura logo, characterized by its black hue and silver accent, should be visible near the product’s top.

The CPSC has documented nine instances where the air fryer exhibited signs of overheating, such as smoking, burning, or even catching fire. However, it’s relieving to note that no injuries or property damages have been reported so far. Given the potential risks, those who own either of these models should promptly verify the model number and date code to ensure safety.

Secura is currently facilitating the return or replacement of the affected air fryers. In acknowledgment of the inconvenience, the company is offering consumers a choice: a $45 Amazon gift card or a complimentary replacement. Affected customers must contact Secura and provide them with a photo of the appliance that clearly shows the severed power cord and the product’s date code. Notably, Secura doesn’t mandate the presentation of the original purchase receipt.

Potential Legal Recourse for Those Injured By This Recalled Air Fryer

In situations where consumer products present potential dangers, those adversely affected might have the grounds to seek legal recourse. Product liability lawsuits could be filed against manufacturers or sellers who distribute hazardous products. Victims can claim damages for a variety of reasons, including medical bills resulting from injuries, loss of earnings, pain and suffering, and even damage to property.

In this context, if someone were to experience harm due to the device’s malfunction, they might have the grounds to file a lawsuit against the manufacturer. Legal proceedings would require proving that the product was indeed defective and that this defect directly resulted in the injury.
