Jetson Electric Bikes and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have recalled over 50,000 "Rogue" hoverboards due to fire hazards after two girls died from smoke inhalation in a Pennsylvania house fire caused by a hoverboard. According to a news report, one model of hoverboards were recalled following two deaths. Two girls died from inhaling smoke when their hoverboard caught fire in their house.

Jetson Electric Bikes and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) are recalling over 50,000 of their “Rogue” model hoverboards due to potential fire hazards.

The Rogue hoverboards being recalled are equipped with two wheels that emit different colors of light, including black, blue, red, pink, and purple.

The CPSC stated on their website that in April 2022, two girls aged 10 and 15 died from inhaling smoke caused by a hoverboard fire that spread throughout their home in Pennsylvania. There have also been numerous other reports of hoverboards igniting, sparking, and melting.

Consumers are advised to stop using and charging the 42-volt version of the hoverboards immediately, but they must take appropriate precautions when disposing of them.

The CPSC notice recommends that “consumers should follow the procedures established by their municipal recycling center for disposal of recalled lithium-ion batteries.”

The affected hoverboards were produced between 2018 and 2019 and were sold online at ridejetson.com, Target stores, and target.com.

Jetson is directly contacting all known buyers and offering a full refund. Consumers can also contact Jetson to receive a refund, but they must provide photos of the hoverboard’s serial number, charger, and purchase date. They must also confirm that they have disposed of the hoverboard properly.

The Process of Filing a Wrongful Death Action

If you believe that your loved one’s death was preventable and caused by someone else’s actions, you might be able to file a wrongful death action.

A wrongful death action is a type of lawsuit that is filed on behalf of a deceased person. The purpose of this lawsuit is to seek monetary compensation for damages suffered as a result of the deceased person’s death. The process of filing a wrongful death action can be complex, but with the help of an experienced attorney, you can navigate the legal system and seek justice for your loved one.

The first step in filing a wrongful death action is to contact an attorney who specializes in this area of law. Your attorney will work with you to gather evidence and build a case against the responsible party. This may involve reviewing medical records, interviewing witnesses, and consulting with experts.

Once your attorney has gathered enough evidence, they will file a complaint with the court on your behalf. The complaint will outline the circumstances surrounding your loved one’s death and the damages you are seeking. The responsible party will then have an opportunity to respond to the complaint and either deny or admit liability.

If liability is admitted, your attorney will work with the responsible party’s insurance company to negotiate a settlement. If liability is denied, your attorney will continue to build a case and prepare for trial. At trial, a jury will hear the evidence and make a determination on liability and damages.

If the jury finds in your favor, you may be awarded damages to compensate you for medical expenses, funeral costs, lost income, and other damages related to your loved one’s death. While no amount of money can bring your loved one back, a successful wrongful death action can help provide closure and financial stability during a difficult time.
